Did you know that the Granny Smith could be called the perfect all-purpose apple? It's available year 'round, and stands up well to long cooking. You're going to wonder if our Cinnamon-Sugar Apple Rings are really a side dish, a dessert … or both!

What You'll Need

  • 2 tablespoons light butter
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon*
  • 3 large apples, cored, and cut into 1/2-inch thick rings
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts

What to Do

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium-low heat; add the brown sugar and cinnamon, stirring until blended.

  2. Add the apple rings; toss gently to coat. Cover, and cook over low heat for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. Sprinkle with chopped walnuts, and serve.

I can't believe how low-carb this is for a recipe with brown sugar. I know it is not a lot of sugar, but it is real sugar. Do you have the equivalent for Splenda or Truvia? I would love to try the recipe both ways and see which one I like. I can eat apples with very little sugar at all.

Just o.k. I prefer the baked apples
