Cook up something beefy in your slow cooker with our recipe for Slow Cooker Short Ribs. Pair these short ribs with a leafy green salad or your favorite whole-grain side dish for a complete and satisfying meal!

What You'll Need

1 tablespoon canola oil
4 pounds lean beef short ribs
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/4 cup chopped onion
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 (8-ounce) can no-salt-added tomato sauce
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

What to Do

In a large skillet over high heat, heat oil; add ribs and brown on both sides. Place ribs in a 4-quart or larger slow cooker.
In a medium bowl, combine remaining ingredients; mix well. Pour sauce over ribs.
Cover and cook on HIGH 5-1/2 to 6 hours or on LOW 8 to 9 hours, or until fork-tender. Skim off any excess fat before serving.

These ribs sounds so delicious. I cannot wait to try them and see what my family thinks. I have been looking for a rib recipe like this for a while. I think this would be great for the family dinner this weekend. Do you cut the ribs before or after cooking? Great post!

Hi there! Short ribs get their name because they are taken from a place on the animal called the "short plate". Hope this was helpful!

I just put this on my grocery list to make this week. I love the crock pot and have always liked short ribs. I know a lot of my friends and family only think of pork spare ribs when they think of ribs, but I'm going to educate them! lol
